My Daddy ~ Poem by Sharnessa

Sharnessa wrote this poem to her dad during her last year of being a teenager, which was back in 1996. Over two decades ago! The photo of Sharnessa sitting in her Daddy's lap ~ was taken close to the time she wrote this for him. (Sorry about the quality; it's a picture of a picture, since digital cameras weren't in use back in those "olden days"!) There's a more current photo of them at the end of the poem.

Here's the poem in the frame Sharnessa put it in, with the pictures she put in it, sitting on Dave's dresser. However, no need to strain your eyes trying to read it here!!! I have included the entire text of it further down this page!

Just to give you a heads-up, the "3,000 miles away" that Sharnessa refers to in her poem was when she was living in England. During her first year over there, she attended I.B.I.O.L. (International Bible Institute of London), and then the following year she moved to Manchester, England and was half of the Christian pop band, V*Enna, in which she performed, sang, and danced ~ along with Lucy Brit, now Lucy West.

They still have the V*Enna website up, pretty much just as it was back then. You can check out the devotional section by clicking on the DEVOTIONS spike on that page, or listen to a song by clicking on the screenshot below. Sharnessa is the strawberry blonde on the left in the photo, which is the CD cover. She comes in at 31 seconds.

Sharnessa Shelton at the time she

wrote this; Sharnessa Sanden now.

We are like two peas in a pod; like father, like daughter. I have your nose, I have your hair. (But you are much more handsome now without it!)

But beyond those obvious things are the memories, and your life, that you've endlessly poured into mine.

I will forever remember and cherish the times we would snuggle on my sinking daybed to chat or nap.

Or the times you were sprawled out on the living room floor, and I would lay my head on your shoulder or chest.

I always felt so secure in your embrace, and I love that, even though I am three thousand miles away, nothing has changed.

And I still have that same security, that same feeling.

I will never forget all those clear nights when we would lay out on the trampoline to gaze at the vast sky and watch for shooting stars, while cuddling in blankets.

Remember when we saw the falling star at the end of the road?!

I will forever love your jokes, stories, and your humor. You make me laugh and smile so much.

I always loved it when you took my hands in yours and we would dance around the living room while you sang to me.

I so appreciate all that you have instilled in me, to name one of the most important ones: an adventurous spirit, which pours into every area of my life.

I admire the man that you are: the loving husband, wonderful father, great friend...

Awesome chef, great sportsman, amazing fix-everything and construction guy, to name a few.

But most of all, I admire your desire for Jesus, and all that you've allowed Him to do in you.

I am so proud, and always have been, to call you "My Daddy."

I love you,

Sharnessa
